Putin signed the law on decriminalization battery

Russian President Vladimir Putin on 7 February signed a law on decriminalization of the battery. The text of the final document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The Federation Council approved the document on February 1. “The law sets out article 116 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation in the new edition and moves the battery against close persons committed for the first time, in the category of administrative offenses”, — said one of the authors of the document, the Deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction Lyudmila Bokova.

The state Duma adopted this law on January 27. Beatings inflicted by family members for the first time shall not be considered criminal, and administrative plane. In case of relapse during the year such actions will be treated as a criminal case. Beating the new law is defined as actions causing physical pain but not leading to short-term health and disability.
