Volodin: the national and religious particularities should not be above state laws

National and religious particularities should not be above the laws of the state, said the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, speaking at the Christmas parliamentary meetings.

“Any person living in Russia, of course, remembers and honors their faith and their national roots and traditions. But we are all citizens of Russia”, – said the head of the lower house of the Russian Parliament.

“We cannot allow a situation where the national and religious specifics are above the laws of the state, – emphasized he. But it is important that the laws themselves are sensitive to national and religious peculiarities”.

In this regard, Volodin said that “spirituality and morality, traditional family values, patriotism (as a national idea) are the fundamental foundations” of Russian society. “It’s something that unites our multi-ethnic, multi-religious country. Russia has traditionally developed as a community where peace and harmony live representatives of different religions and nationalities, United by a common destiny and shared plans for the future,” he said.

In the State Duma pass the jubilee Christmas of the parliamentary meetings, we will focus on changes in the legislation concerning the activities of religious organizations, the teaching of basic Orthodox culture in Russian schools.
