Mikhail Gorbachev

The first President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev called on world leaders to adopt a resolution banning nuclear war. About this he wrote in his column that is published in the American magazine Time on Friday, January 27.

“I propose that the UN Security Council to hold a meeting at the level of heads of States and to adopt a resolution that said that a nuclear war is unacceptable and should never be,” the article reads.

Gorbachev stressed that the initiative on the adoption of the document must come from the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and his us counterpart Donald trump.

According to the former Soviet leader, the threat of nuclear confrontation is very real. “Statements by politicians and military are becoming aggressive, and defense doctrine are becoming more dangerous. Commentators and presenters join the militant choir. it looks like the world is preparing for war,” he concludes.

On 25 January, the Senator from Massachusetts Edward Markey and house of representatives member Ted Liu introduced in Congress a bill depriving the President of Donald trump the right to a preemptive nuclear strike.

16 Jan trump spoke at the conclusion of the nuclear agreement with Moscow in exchange for easing of the sanctions regime. What are the arrangements in question are unknown. Official Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on trump’s offer, said that no negotiations on this subject between Moscow and Washington is not carried out.
