The accusations against the Vice-speaker of the State Duma Peter Tolstoy sounded hastily, such a reaction is unacceptable – such opinion was expressed by the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. His words convey the Rambler/news citing RIA Novosti.

“Someone asked? He immediately began to blame. These instant charges, where everyone saw some kind of a hidden meaning, invalid, invalid, because it may end up that you will take blame, and say “no, you probably talked about this”. This is wrong,” — said Volodin.

The statement of the member of “United Russia” on St. Isaac’s Cathedral in Saint-Petersburg of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) asked me to see representatives of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia (FJC). In particular, Peter Tolstoy said that “people who are the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of those who destroyed our churches, leaping out of the pale of settlement with revolvers in 1917, today, working in a variety of other very reputable places – on the radio, in the legislative assemblies, continue the work of their grandfathers.” The FJC MP was accused of undermining international peace.

Volodin also said that Russia is a “multinational country. Peace and harmony are the basis of our society and the achievements that have country.” Volodin has expressed willingness to meet with leaders of the FJC to discuss the controversial statements of Peter Tolstoy.

Pale of settlement – in the Russian Empire from 1791 to 1917 the territory outside which Jews and Gypsies were forbidden permanent residence. In the area of the pale of settlement includes a significant part of the Kingdom of Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Bessarabia, Latgale (one of the regions of Latvia) and part of modern Ukraine.

10 January 2017, the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko said that made the decision on transfer of the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Isaac’s Cathedral.
