The candidature of the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev re-proposed for the post of Chairman of “United Russia”. On Sunday, January 22, reports TASS with reference to the joint meeting of the Supreme and General Council of the party.
The Chairman of “United Russia”, expected to elect at the Congress on Sunday for a period of five years. The Charter of the EP, in particular, allows the head of the party to convene the extraordinary Congress, to suspend the powers of members of the Central bodies of the party or leadership of departments. In addition, the Chairman may suspend the decisions of the governing bodies, with the exception taken by the Congress party.
Medvedev was elected President of the EP at the party Congress in may 2012. The previous Congress in September 2011 ruled that Medvedev (at that time President of Russia) will head the election list of the party in the Duma elections and Vladimir Putin holding then a post of the head of government, will be the candidate of the party in the 2012 presidential elections.
