Samara Governor established father’s Day

Nikolai Merkushkin

Samara region Governor Nikolai Merkushkin signed a law establishing in the region a new holiday — father’s Day. On Monday, January 16, reported on the official website of the regional government.

New holiday residents of the region will celebrate the first Saturday of November. The emergence of holiday dates is intended to enhance the role of fatherhood in society and to strengthen the value of the family institution, noted in a press-service of the government.

In April 2014 the state Duma communicated to the Chairman of the Russian government Olga Golodets to establish father’s Day at the Federal level. Choices offered to do the holiday on the third Sunday of June, wrote the newspaper “Izvestia”.

The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov a few years ago established the Day of the Chechen woman. The holiday is celebrated on the third Sunday of September.

Father’s day is celebrated in more than 50 countries worldwide, including the UK, Germany, France, USA and Switzerland. In Russia this holiday is enshrined in the local legislative level in several regions, such as Arkhangelsk, Volgograd, Vologda, Magadan and Ulyanovsk regions.
