Rospotrebnadzor warns of the spread of chikungunya fever

MOSCOW, 18 Jul — RIA Novosti. The CPS drew the attention of the Russians on the spread of chikungunya in the Western hemisphere, particularly in Brazil, the number of cases last year has increased almost ten times, said on the Agency’s website.

As reported by the CPS with reference to the Ministry of health of Brazil, in 2015 in the medical institutions in the country asked about 26.5 thousand people with signs of illness, fever, six of them died. It is noted that in 2016 the number of cases amounted to more than 250 thousand people, 138 of them died from complications.

It is emphasized that, according to the world health organization, chikungunya fever were detected in almost 40 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and America, most common in India, Indian ocean Islands, Southeast Asia, Central and South America.

“In the Russian Federation recorded isolated imported cases. Citizens traveling to countries recording cases of chikungunya fever, you must take precautions against insect bites: wearing of protective clothes and use special repellents” — stated in the message.

As noted, the CPS, no Russian climatic conditions for the development of the virus chikungunya fever, so the spread of the disease in Russia is impossible. The Agency draws the attention of the Russians on the situation and asks to take it into account when planning trips.

According to the information of Rospotrebnadzor, chikungunya fever is transmitted by mosquitoes. Usually the symptoms appear within 4-8 days after the bite of an infected mosquito, but this period can range from 2 to 12 days. Any specific antiviral drugs for the treatment of chikungunya there.
