Leonid Yuzefovich became the winner of the literary prize “Big book”

The second prize was awarded to Eugene Vodolazkin for her novel “the Aviator”, the third place — Lyudmila Ulitskaya for her novel “Jacob’s Ladder”.

MOSCOW, December 6 — RIA Novosti. The winner of the national literary prize “Big book” was Leonid Yuzefovich’s novel “the Winter road”.

Solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the prize takes place on Tuesday at the Pashkov House in Moscow. The prize is awarded for the 11th time. The second prize was awarded to Eugene Vodolazkin for her novel “the Aviator”, the third place — Lyudmila Ulitskaya for her novel “Jacob’s Ladder”.

“A very private informal conversations with contemporary writers we hear that it’s hard to compete with the classics — Pushkin, Tolstoy, and others. In fact, millions of readers look forward to your pieces each month”, — said the head of Rospechat Mikhail Seslavinsky, and then read an excerpt from the novel “Winter road” and presented the award to the winner.

Documentary novel by Leonid Yuzefovich “Winter road” praised and brought in their lists almost all the major literary prize this season: he became a “National bestseller” this year, claimed victory in the “Yasnaya Polyana”, and is serious competition for the “Russian Booker” and “Big book”.

The novel was released in 2015, the publishing house “Edition Elena Shubina”. The plot was a little-known episode of the Civil war in Russia, when the Siberian volunteer team made a trip from Vladivostok to Yakutia in 1922-1923. The author admits that the main task for him is to “extract worthy figures from historical oblivion or palasavena”.

Eugene Vodolazkin and Lyudmila Ulitskaya, who had already become laureates of the award, admitted that the awards this year were very unexpected.

“I always have a strong feeling that saying is valid and two chickens in one hand do not give. I had a second chicken, I’m very happy,” said Ulitskaya, and Vodolazkin agreed with her.

The prize “Big book” for contribution to literature was received by the publisher Boris Kupriyanov, member of the expert Council of the fair of intellectual literature non/fiction, which ended in Moscow on Sunday.

Victory claimed 11 of authors, among them Vladimir Dinets (“Song of dragons”), Maria Galina (“Autochthonous”), Peter Aleshkovsky (“Fortress”), Alexey Ivanov (“stormy weather”), Alexander Ilichevsky (“Right to left”), Anna Matveeva (“Enviable sense of Faith in Steinau”), Sergey Soloh (“Stories about animals”) and Sasha Filipenko (“Persecution”).

The Board of experts this year included Executive Secretary of the journal “Banner” Elena Kholmogorova, Deputy editor-in-chief of magazine “October” Alexey Andreev, the Deputy head of the Department of prose of the magazine “New world” Olga Novikova, theater critic, literary critic Dmitry Samoilov.

National literary prize “Big book” established in 2005 “the Center of support of domestic literature”. In different years the winners became Vladimir Sorokin, Alexander Ilichevsky, Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Dina Rubina, Zakhar Prilepin, Leonid Yuzefovich, Mikhail Shishkin, Dmitry Bykov and other writers. The author, who took first place will receive 3 million rubles, the second — 1.5 million rubles, the third — 1 million rubles.
