The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera said that Russia calls on the West to abandon its attempts of “geopolitical engineering” in the middle East, RIA Novosti reported. Also the head of the Russian depodesta called for respect for the sovereignty of Syria.
“Russia calls on the West to abandon its attempts geopolitical engineering in the middle East, to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria,” Lavrov said.
He added that in Syria, in parallel with the elimination of militants, should be launched “inclusive inter-Syrian negotiation process.” And pointed out that VKS RF, dealt a serious blow on terrorism in the region and every action of the Russian military measures in international law.
Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin made a statement that the concept of moderate opposition in Syria has failed.
