Annually on the 27th of November is the Day of the marine corps Russia. It is set by order of the commander of the Navy of Russia Felix Gromova 19 December 1995.

Currently, a separate brigade of Marines deployed to all fleets:

  • Baltic (336 guards Bialystok brigade, Baltiysk),
  • Pacific (155 brigade in Vladivostok and the 40th Krasnodar-Harbin on the Kamchatka Peninsula),
  • Black sea (810 brigade in Sevastopol),
  • North (61st Kirkenes brigade, stationed in the village of Sputnik, Murmansk region),
  • separate battalions of Marines be part of the Caspian flotilla (in Kaspiysk and Astrakhan).

In the marine corps is floating military equipment, portable anti-tank and anti-aircraft systems, automatic small arms. The total number of Russian Marines now stands at about 12 500 people.

History of the marine corps

27 November (16 November in the Church calendar) 1705, Tsar Peter I issued a decree on the formation of the first regiment of the “sea soldier”, intended for service in the boarding assault teams fighting ships.

As a separate naval units of the regiments of Marines existed until the early nineteenth century. After that they were transferred to the land forces, and the execution of amphibious operations entrusted to sailors.

Special infantry units in the Navy was re-established after the Russo-Japanese war (1904-1905).

In 1916, on their basis it was formed two marine infantry division in the Baltic and black sea fleets. In the Civil war (1918-1922) in the worker-peasant red army fought various groups of sailors, and in 1920-1921 part in the fighting in the Donbass took 1st marine expeditionary infantry division. After the Civil war, all the land part of the worker-peasant red fleet, with the exception of the guards regiments, was disbanded.
