The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko has opposed changes in the Russian Constitution. On Tuesday, November 22, reports TASS.

In its opinion, article 13, specifies that “no ideology may be established as state or obligatory” shall remain in the basic law.

“The Constitution is self-sufficient, the many years as our Basic law to serve and work for the state and the interests of the people of our country”, — said the Senator, adding that “considering some historical aspects the term “state ideology”” it is better not to use in this context.

12 Aug Matvienko has proposed to introduce mandatory examination of the laws on their conformity with the Russian historical and national values.

In December last year the Deputy of the state Duma of the seventh convocation Valery Milonov said about the need to assign to religion the status of state ideology by writing it in the basic law. “If we don’t change our Constitution, we will come to a number of serious problems in our society,” he warned.
