The Council of the Eurasian economic community in Moscow to discuss the draft customs code

Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev will take part in session of the intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian economic Union (EEU) in Moscow.

The meeting will be held with the participation of heads of governments of the EurAsEC member States (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan). It will be the eighth since the start of the Union in January 2015 and the fifth in 2016.

The meeting will focus on finalizing the draft of the new customs code of the Eurasian economic Union to replace customs code of the customs Union in 2009. The signing of the document is planned at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian economic Council in December 2016.

Medvedev at the last meeting of the intergovernmental Council of the EurAsEC in Minsk in late October stated that the members “spent several hours in heated discussions regarding the preparation of a new customs code”. “The new code laid the Foundation for the transition to the unified customs regulation. Russia advocates that it was a full-length, full-fledged document of direct action, not divided into parts,” — said the head of the Russian government.

In Moscow will also discuss the regulation of the emerging single market of medicines and medical devices. The heads of government will consider a package of documents regulating the registration and circulation of pharmaceuticals in the customs territory of the Union. Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Sagintayev Bakytzhan in Minsk said that during the meeting in Moscow is to remove a number of issues associated with the operation of free economic zones.

In addition, on Wednesday will decide on the date and venue of the next meeting of the Eurasian intergovernmental Council.

EurAsEC is the international economic integration Association, created on the basis of the Customs Union and the common economic space starting from 1 January 2015. In 2016, the Union bodies, including the intergovernmental Council, the presiding country Kazakhstan. Elected President of Moldova Igor Dodon stated the need for holding a referendum on the country’s accession to the EurAsEC.

Medvedev earlier during a visit to Israel and Palestine, said that Russia intends to hold consultations with the EurAsEC partners to develop a common position concerning the establishment of a free trade area with Israel. The Russian Prime Minister at the meeting of the intergovernmental Council of the EurAsEC in Minsk in late October said that the first round of negotiations is scheduled before the end of the year. The Federation Council speaker Valentine Matvienko during her visit to Iran stated that the Islamic Republic is ready in 2017, to sign the agreement on free trade zone with the Eurasian economic community.
